Culture has contributed so much to relationships and marriages today. As you will see from this article, many people left their traditions and are now following Westernization. According to the African culture, a woman was not equal to a man. Traditional norms considered a woman the "Neck" and a man the "Head". Times have changed where both the man and woman become breadwinners and the issue of equality gets in. The woman who was once submissive becomes a "Head" just like the man and so there is no one to listen to the other and therefore this leads to marriage breakups. Money, in other words, a rise in the standard of living has also contributed to many divorces in the African community.

According to research I conducted, many people argue that the economy is high so both husbands and wives have to contribute equally to sustain their families. The result of these brings about a lack of attention and so the worst happens' "divorce".

Peer pressure is the influence of behavior by other people. Some people tend to copy what others are doing so that they are not left behind or considered outdated. When a friend leaves his/her partner for someone else, you will find them doing the same either to impress their friends or for them not to be left behind.

Lovers are another source of divorces in the modern society. Researchers have found the main cause of divorce is this.  75% of partners prefer separation or divorce to a marriage full of frustrations.

Courtship has been there since time immemorial. It is the time a person takes to know another better, especially where a long-term commitment like marriage is involved. In our modern society, a man and woman meet up and immediately marry without caring what the case may be. The situation above is dangerous because the involved couple never gets to learn each other's strengths and weaknesses, therefore, divorce comes.

In conclusion, marriages should be taken seriously in that money should not be the key to a beautiful relationship/marriage. Secondly, courtship should be encouraged before marriage happens. Lastly, marriage partners should appreciate each other and solve their differences together, and in case that fails, a third party should be involved i.e.  Marriage/ relationship counselors.
