Social networking forms an important part of human life and can’t be ignored any longer. The concern is whether the sites on social media sites are good for society.
Just like any other item, social networking has good and bad things. The positive impacts are as follows. First, it is easier to make friends and keep them using social media even if you have never met them in real life. Secondly, empathy is fostered using social media an, avenue where thoughts and life experiences are helped to solve by caring friends who might have gone through a similar experience as yours. In addition, communication has been fastened with a small talk in the current busy yet a thinner and thinner world. Finally, through social media, a common ground is established in the sense that fitting in is easier provided the subject open up a little.
Some of the negative effects of social networking are, first, shortened attention spans, there being so much information to consume, less time is spent in exploring to great depths. Additionally, productivity has been harmed by the distractions caused by the games more frequently advertised amid serious online commitments like studying. Thirdly, loss of privacy is enhanced by oversharing of personal information exposing us to cybercrime. Attention- seeking that leads to self -centeredness is another shortcoming of social media. Vaguebooking is an annoying way of seeking attention,it is a crime in its own right. Lastly, social media is breaking up relationships and marriages as people hook up for extra-marital acts which heart other parties in their relationships.
In conclusion, while enjoying social networking, it’s good to eliminate some of its toxicity, filter bad comments on networking websites, learn to read and explore social media for positive impacts more often.
