Healthy living is maintaining physical, mental and social wellbeing of a person. This makes sure that all organs, both internal and external are working well. Healthy living helps in preventing lifestyle diseases such as obesity and stroke. The following are five ways of living a healthy live.
1. Healthy eating. It is important to eat a balanced diet. Your food should contain more of Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and foods with low saturated fats. Avoid unprocessed food as much as possible. Avoid red meat; instead take white meat such as fish and chicken. Also avoid much sugar intake. Finally drink a lot of water.
2. Physical activities. Regular exercise should be done making sure to work out different parts of the body. Many people think that physical exercise involves only going to the gym. There are a wide range of physical exercises that can be done even at home without going to the gym. This includes walking, jogging, press ups, sit ups and yoga. You can also go for hiking and mountain climbing.
3. Avoid drug abuse such as tobacco and alcohol. Drugs have more harm than benefits to human body. They cause diseases which leads to death. For example smoking tobacco is believed to cause lung cancer while excessive alcohol intake causes liver cirrhosis which can lead to liver cancer.
4. Avoid risky sexual behavior. This involves having multiples sex partners and having sexual partners with history of Sexual Transmitted diseases and intravenous drug use. Risky sexual behavior will lead to STIs and STDs hence affecting your health.
5. Stress management. This ensures that your mental and emotional health is not at risk. This can be done through avoiding stress, participate in recreational activities and sports and have enough sleep of about seven to nine hours a day. Also in case of depression seek professional help.
